Annoying Breaking Aggro
I play Infusion Spammer on my Elementalist a lot. It's a fun build but I noticed a bunch of odd aggro breaks. When 4-5 enemies suddenly stop attacking tanks and heads straight for me and nearly spike me. It's not a big deal but it's annoying to see 4-5 tanks suddenly switches the target to me. Resulting in a 3-2-1 spike kind of deal. Luckily I can see the spike coming because some enemies suddenly charges at me. But, rarely I don't see it and it causes a cheap death. Oh, the build.
The insulting yet positive comment. "Great tanking ele, the enemies were nicely balled in the backline for us." (Yes, it was actually a complement.)
So I wiki'ed PvE spiking... nothing that explained, when I searched the aggro section I found this:
Quote:
Health : The lower your health, the fewer hits it takes a foe to kill you. Thus, your foes will favor anyone with low health. Conversely, more health means you are less likely to be targeted.
Armor: How tough are you? The stronger your armor, the more work is involved in killing you.
Health regeneration/degeneration : High health regeneration will reduce your chances of being the monsters target, while the opposite is true for degeneration.
|
People ask why I bring mending and watchful spirit on my bar is because of spiking. It does a surprisingly job at avoiding a cheap spike (~50% less of a chance.)
So what I want to add:
Quote:
Damage Reduction: The less damage you take the more chance the foe isn't going to target you.
|
I makes sense, it will add more strategy to the game.
And avoids the hundredth cheap death when most enemies randomly switches targets.

Reading this, when making a char that i wish to go survivior on, it sounds a good idea to chuck on mending upkeep protective spirit or something.

They aren't randomly switching targets.

Why is this in Sardelac? Did I miss a suggestion? Or is this a discussion on aggro control and Ele builds?

Is it really "cheap" when the ai avoids making the worst decision they could make? They *should* go after the weakest link (defensively) in the team. A good rule of thumb for choosing your targets in any game is to go for the ones that have a) the lowest defense, and b) the strongest offense or abilities.

I believe this is the suggestion:
Quote:
Damage Reduction: The less damage you take the more chance the foe isn't going to target you.
|
Why not exploit it(the aggro break) instead? If they all ball up on you, blow them up.

Your suggestion confuses me. That's already done with the whole armour thing.

Even more confusing is the fact that the monsters must first target you and attempt to deal damage in order to determine the damage reduction apart from armor in order to not target you.
Wait. Paradox.

I found a quite easy way to avoid target: carry a spear, a mesmer weapon or no weapon at all.
Most monsters see professions on the weapon you carry and some won't even target you if you carry no weapon. Paragons and mesmers seem to be the targets they like less, I don't know why.

Huh, why wasn't that in the monster AI target list? I'll give that a try.
Movement Speed: Both yours and your foes. Can your foes catch up to you quickly? If not, you may be ignored in favor of an ally that is less able to flee.
Distance: This goes hand in hand with snares. If the foe moves very slowly, it will favor greatly any targets that are nearby.
Self defense: A foe may choose to switch from their current target to someone who is attacking them.

And my suggestion, if you read
Quote:
Damage Reduction: The less damage you take the more chance the foe isn't going to target you.

Skills like [protective spirit], [protective bond] and every cheap earth spell armor would be affected. It won't be a huge difference, probably have the same AI effect as health regen/degen. It would make the AI more realistic.

So you want to make bad AI even worse? How is that a good thing?

Worse? During battle my health is ~50% health and you can see each enemy turn right at me.
Like a siren just went off on me and damage reducing spells won't have an effect like regen/degen spells?

it seems like ur upset that the monsters are switch targets from the tanks after a certain period of time to come and attack u. simply kill faster =D. enemies won't just sit there for 5 minutes while u wail on em ;-)

I tried your build out with a few modifications (with runes and health), but I don't see how you are in any way concern with dying with this build.
Just keep healing you teammates and you're invincible in a PvE perspective.

They are turning on you because like you said a siren just went off on your head, witch is you lost half of your health very quick, makes them want to kill you insted, why should they try to avoid targets that have protection skills on when they are nearly dead, their AI tells that that a target with low health is ready to die and they try to do just that, if they made it so that they would target someone else when u have dmg reduction skills on im assuming it would affect farming in some way.

I do. Uhh, I'm not a noob.
As long as I'm in monster aggro they will ignore frontlines.
By the way, I tried the spear thing and it worked. I'm still WTF . Mobs don't suddenly switch to me out of no where.
I guess this suggestion is fixed .

This is normal in pvp, just treat pve as pvp where enemies are not too dumb.
BTW, you can still burn/degen them and run around.
